At The Olympus Standard Poodle, we are dedicated to bringing you puppies that are not only adorable and loving but also well-prepared for a healthy and fulfilling life by your side. Our breeding program is centered around the principles of health, early development, and socialization to ensure that your new furry family member grows up to be a confident, well-rounded companion.

Health Comes First

We prioritize the well-being of our puppies by selecting parents who have undergone extensive health testing. All our breeding dogs are OFA-certified for hips, elbows, cardiac health, and thyroids, and they boast a DNA profile that is 100% clear of over 230 genetic health risks. These rigorous tests guarantee that your puppy is less likely to inherit health issues, providing you with peace of mind as you welcome them into your home.

Weight Monitoring

At The Olympus Standard Poodle, we follow a meticulous process of monitoring each puppy's weight. Right from birth, we assign a unique colored collar to each puppy. For the first 2 weeks, we record their weight every 12 hours, and thereafter, we continue daily tracking. This careful approach allows us to closely monitor the development and growth of each puppy, ensuring they are thriving in a healthy manner. The collected information also enables us to provide you with detailed updates on your puppy's progress as you eagerly anticipate bringing them home. We are committed to offering you complete transparency and the reassurance that your new companion is receiving the attention and care they deserve. If you have any questions about the weight monitoring process or any other aspect of our program, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to provide you with all the information you need to confidently welcome your new puppy.

Beginning Nail Grinding

We understand the importance of maintaining your puppy's grooming needs right from the start, which includes nail care. To ensure your puppy is comfortable with nail maintenance, we begin nail grinding at an early age. Starting a few days after birth, we introduce your puppy to the sensation of nail grinding. This gradual introduction helps them become accustomed to the process and the sensation, making future nail maintenance sessions stress-free for both of you.

Our goal is to create a positive and cooperative attitude toward grooming procedures, and starting nail grinding early is an essential step in achieving this. As your puppy grows, they will already be familiar with the process, making regular nail care a breeze.

Early Development with Puppy Culture

Our puppies are raised using the Puppy Culture program, a comprehensive week-by-week system designed to nurture confident, intelligent, and socially adept adult dogs. From the very beginning, your puppy benefits from structured learning and exposure to various stimuli that build a strong foundation for a happy life.

Early Neurological Stimulation

During the critical period of days 3 to 16, our puppies undergo the Early Neurological Stimulation protocol. This series of gentle exercises helps our puppies cope with stress, enhances their problem-solving skills, and supports their overall physical health. These early experiences are designed to have a lasting positive impact, making them more adaptable and capable as they grow into adulthood.

Early Scent Introduction

From days 3 to 16, we implement the Early Scent Introduction protocol. This practice enhances the smelling abilities of our puppies as they develop. This improvement in scent detection contributes to success in various fields, including obedience, scent detection work, search and rescue missions, stable hunting, tracking, and more. Additionally, it boosts the confidence and stability of service and performance dogs, preparing them for a wide range of tasks and challenges.

Balanced Nutrition

We understand the critical role nutrition plays in healthy growth. We provide our puppies with a balanced and high-quality diet to ensure their optimal development. We work in collaboration with canine nutrition experts to ensure your puppies receive the essential nutrients they need during this crucial stage of their lives.

Socialization Beyond Compare

Our puppies experience a diverse array of sights and sounds, interacting with different people of all ages and appearances. From vacuum cleaners to car rides, they are well-prepared for life's adventures. They're introduced to various surfaces, sounds like storms and traffic, and even experience the bustling kitchen environment.

Potty Training

We understand the importance of a smooth transition to your home, which is why we begin litter box training around 2.5 weeks of age. This foundational step helps your puppy develop good habits for relieving themselves in a designated area. By the time you welcome your new family member, they will already have a head start in their potty training journey, making the adjustment process much easier for both you and your puppy.

Training

Our approach to training is centered around positive reinforcement, beginning from the earliest stages of your puppy's life. This method fosters a strong bond between you and your furry companion. Through consistent and rewarding training, your puppy learns essential obedience cues and behaviors. Starting this foundation early sets the stage for a well-mannered and responsive dog that will thrive in your home and beyond.

Grooming

Grooming is an essential aspect of your dog's overall well-being. Our grooming practices start early to ensure that your puppy is comfortable with various grooming experiences. A few days after birth, we begin with regular nail trimming. Around 3 weeks, we introduce your puppy to the sensation of an electric toothbrush on their face and feet, helping them become accustomed to touch and handling. At 4 weeks of age, your puppy will experience a full grooming session, including a bath, blow-drying, nail trimming, and hair trimming. This early exposure to grooming activities ensures that your puppy will grow up to be relaxed and cooperative during grooming sessions, making their care a stress-free experience for both of you.

Crate Training Foundations

We believe in setting our puppies up for success from the start, which includes crate training. Our approach focuses on creating a positive association with the crate as a safe and comfortable space. By gradually introducing your puppy to the crate with treats, toys, and positive reinforcement, they learn to view it as their own special retreat. This foundation helps with house training and ensures that your puppy is comfortable and relaxed when crated, making travel and other situations stress-free.

Sound Desensitization

To help our puppies become confident in various environments, we expose them to a wide range of sounds from an early age. These include household noises, such as vacuum cleaners and kitchen appliances, as well as external sounds like traffic, thunderstorms, and fireworks. By gradually increasing exposure and rewarding calm behavior, we build their resilience, making them well-equipped to handle different auditory stimuli throughout their lives.

Later Scent Exercises

Concurrently with early Neurosensory Stimulation (ENS), we expose our puppies to a variety of scents. Subsequently, we provide them with tracking experiences, following aromatic trails of kibble. Additionally, we introduce them to specific fragrances such as rabbit, dove, quail, duck, and others. We also present challenges, such as hiding kibble in towels, placing it inside treat-dispensing toys, or scattering it on a snuffle mat.

Outside Exploration

Exploring the great outdoors is an important part of a puppy's early development. Weather permitting, we introduce our puppies to outdoor environments to experience new sights, smells, and textures. This outdoor exposure encourages curiosity, provides mental stimulation, and contributes to their overall well-being.

Socialization with Other Animals

Our puppies also benefit from socialization with other animals, including cats. We carefully introduce the puppies to well-adjusted cats to foster healthy interactions and teach appropriate behaviors. This interaction helps develop social skills and ensures that your puppy feels comfortable around other pets, whether they are dogs or cats. By providing them with positive experiences with a variety of furry companions, we're laying the foundation for harmonious relationships and a life filled with positive connections

Novel Experiences

We are committed to expanding the horizons of our puppies from the outset. Our puppies encounter an array of novel experiences designed to foster cognitive growth and build confidence. From walking on various textured surfaces to exploring different rooms, meeting new people, interacting with unfamiliar dogs, hearing a variety of sounds, and encountering new scents, our puppies embark on a journey of discovery that paves the way for lifelong adaptability and resilience.

In addition to experiences, our puppies are introduced to a multitude of novel items. These items are carefully chosen to stimulate curiosity, encourage problem-solving skills, and enhance cognitive development. From their first toy to each subsequent new item, such as krinkly toys, tarps, tunnels, balls, swings, and adventure boxes, each interaction sparks neural connections that contribute to their future ability to cope with stress and navigate challenges.

Some elements serve as both novel experiences and novel items. For instance, encountering their first tunnel not only introduces a new environment but also presents an object to explore. The learning process includes realizing they can move through it, create sounds, and even take a nap within it.

By providing these rich experiences and items, we aim to create a robust foundation for your puppy's neural development. This foundation enhances their capacity to handle stress later in life and cultivates a confident demeanor. We believe that early exposure to a stimulating environment forms the basis for a well-adjusted, resilient, and joyful companion.

Aquatic Introduction for Poodles

Poodles have a rich history as skilled water retrievers. At The Olympus Standard Poodle, we continue this tradition by providing early aquatic exposure for our puppies. Around the age of 6  weeks, we introduce them to a shallow water-filled crate tray, allowing them to interact with water in a controlled and positive environment. As they grow, weather permitting, we offer the delightful experience of a shallow pool for outdoor play.

Embracing their natural instincts, we ensure that our puppies have a chance to engage with water, building their comfort and confidence. This introduction not only pays homage to their ancestry but also enriches their overall development.
